About the Author

Efren A. Delgado has served as a protector for 25 years preserving our country’s national security, enforcing our criminal laws and ensuring peoples’ safety in various contexts domestically and abroad as a freelance agent performing threat assessments and executive protection. His dynamic background offers distinctive color to his writing, emphasizing his unique insight into the human mind and a practical yet optimistic philosophy.

Efren’s career in federal law enforcement honed his ability to effectively measure and confront various threats, as he depicts in his mantra: Assess, Adapt & Overcome. He joined the FBI’s National Security Division in January of 2000, and was assigned to the Washington Field Office where he worked Foreign Counterintelligence, Espionage, and Counterterrorism matters. He gained a firsthand appreciation for crisis scenarios after directly assisting in the PENTBOM investigation subsequent to the tragic attack when terrorists crashed a domestic passenger plane into The Pentagon on 09/11/2001, ten minutes from his home in Old Town, Alexandria.

While in Washington, Efren also supported the FBI’s Critical Incident Response Group (CIRG) at the National Center for the Analysis of Violent Crime (NCAVC) throughout the Spring of 2003. At CIRG, he contributed to the research and investigative efforts of crimes relating to death, violence and sexual paraphilias of various offenders—with victims ranging from infants to the elderly.

In November of 2007 Efren joined the less secretive world of the FBI’s Criminal Investigative Division as a Special Agent for the Civil Rights Unit at the Los Angeles Field Office and became a presenter for the Assistant Director’s Community Outreach projects. He spoke to a wide-range of subcultures, including members of LGBTQ, ethnic groups from the Black, Hispanic, Sikh and Muslim communities, school children, and hostile police departments who had some of their officers under criminal investigation for allegations of abuse. However, Delgado’s primary duties were investigating Human Trafficking, Color of Law and Hate Crime violations. He was credited with significantly curtailing violent police misconduct through his in-depth investigations, dismantling a Human Trafficking criminal enterprise, and with disrupting a lethal skinhead hate organization, where he received an award from the Anti-Defamation League for significant law enforcement accomplishments in combating hate crime.

In 2014 Efren accepted a promotion for a temporary assignment at FBI Headquarters as a Supervisory Special Agent for the Public Corruption Unit, where he managed a region of the United States with their specialized needs, including organizing and approving undercover operations. During this assignment, Efren also instructed the FBI’s Public Corruption training in El Salvador for the U.S. State Department’s International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) in January of 2015.

After enjoying over 15 years in the FBI, Efren separated from the Bureau to work in the private sector as a special consultant, conducting threat assessments and executive protection in Southern California. Although Efren continues to consult, his priorities have shifted to his young family, his writing, and public speaking endeavors.

Efren received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin in 1998, and a Master’s in Forensic Psychology from Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia in 2003, where he was a member of their Delta Epsilon Sigma & Psy Chi National Scholastic Honor societies.
